We attended the Knights of Columbus "Day at the Races" fundraiser on Sunday. And I have to say that we had so much fun! The race track is not as crowded as it used to be, now with off site wagering... The stands were practically empty! The kids had fun wandering around looking at the horses, Jack took a group shot with a jockey for Andrea's Birthday! Happy Birthday Andrea. What a great way to spend your birthday! At the races with all of us crazy HNM'ers!!! Plus I just love reading the names of the horses. They are named such fun and unique names. I bet on Rogue Scholar (just because I liked the name) and she came in second! Plus it is always fun to watch the men who take horse racing so seriously. They have their Racing Forums and the info about each horse, and they bicker between each other on why this horse is more likely to win.... as they are chomping
on their cigars.
The race track has a unique gift shop too. With everything a horse lover would want. Jewelry, clothing, stationary, books, toys, coloring books... They had a Santa Anita Racetrack sticker I bought for the kids scrap page. And the most hilarious cards with a cartoon drawing of a horse. The track also has Seabiscuit tours. They have this horse pinned up and a sign that says Seabiscuit. Plus if you call in advance they will give you tours of the paddocks and tell you all about the Seabiscuit horse and the filming of the movie here at Santa Anita. We had alot of fun and I would definitely take the kids back for another day at the track!
